What weight loss supplements would you suggest?

I've decided to lose about 50 lbs by the time the summer is over and so far I'm making great progress. I started my diet a little over a month ago and have already lost 14 lbs. I joined the gym. I go at least 4 times a week. Usually every day though unless another plan interrupts my schedule. I am watching what I eat. I have cut my calories significantly and even started keeping a food diary, in which i also keep track of my exercise. I bought a pedometer and count me steps, basically I've improved my way tremendously since the year started. My question now is in regards to those infamous "weight loss pills". I would like to add something to increase my energy, boost my metabolism, and just speed up the process. I am kind of in a hurry because I am planning a vacation and would like to possibly complete this before my initial plan. But how can you trust anything out there, really? Has anyone taken anything that they were satisfied with? Or does anybody have any tips in general? I tried the Slimquick, I even tried TrimSpa, but stopped taking them soon after. Trimspa still sits in my closet i took like 4 of them. Slimquick i used a whole bottle of, bought another one, went through half and then stopped because i wasn't sure if they would interact with medications that i started taking at the time. I can say i was pretty satisfied with the results slimquick gave me. Still I would like to see what other options I have. The cost is also a concern, simply because I'm not rich and can't afford to spend $100/month on weight loss pills. A friend of mine [body builder] swears by Hydroxycut. But not many other people I talked to recommended it, so any suggestions?

  1. Pills are a fools way. You want to boost your metabolism your doing it by exercising. The best way to truely make a change in how your body burns calories is to lift weights. More muscle = mor calories burned a day. A pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat....... Here is what I tell everyone who asks Step 1: Find out what your basal metabolic rate is. Goto http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators/basal/basal.html This is the amount of calories you need to eat to maintain your current weight. Step 2: Do you exercise? Do you exercise right? Exercising right means that you monitor your heart rate and make sure that you reach your target heart rate and maintain it for the longest period of time while exercising. Just walking/excising is a good start but if you want to get the most out of your work out find out what your target range is. If you don't belong to a gym then I recommend the Polar Fitness F11 Heart Monitor Watch. Step 3: You need to decrease your caloric intake or increase the amount of calories your body uses in a day by 500 calories a day for a week to lose 1 pound. So you can decrease that basal number you got in step 1 by 500 calories and exercise very little(yes you still need to exercise). Or you can decrease it by 250 and exercise off 250 calories or any other combination. Remember that your basal number is the amount of calories you body needs to live. If your number were 2400 then your body burn 100 calories per hour. So if you walk for half an hour and burn 300, 50 of that is your basal. Step 4: Count your calories, it's not hard and you'll find out that you eat a lot of the same things on a daily basis so you won't have to research everything over and over again. Balance what you eat(equal parts carbs and protien whenever possible) . One of the best websites out there is one from the FDA. http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/ This database has almost every food on the planet counted and weighed. (Hint: they do a lot of their weights based on 100grams. If you put 0.28 in the serving size this equals 1 ounce). Get a reliable food scale, preferably digital. Weigh everything that you put in your mouth that is not prepackaged. You need to know what you’re eating and how much you’re eating. The number one mistake is "eating healthy". Everyone thinks because it's "healthy" the portion isn't that important. A handful of peanuts is "healthy" and has nearly 250 calories! Eat enough calories and it won’t matter how "healthy" it is your going to gain weight. Step 5: Adjustments and Variety. If you are doing your best and losing weight but your starving, increase the amount of calories your giving yourself by 100-200 calories a day. Losing weight and starving are not good bedfellows. If you starve eventually you will crack and lose the battle. The more types of exercises you do the more weight you will lose. You will work more muscles and keep your body guessing. Step 6(optional): If you belong to a gym or have some free weights at home. Use them! Muscle takes up less space in your body than fat (pound for pound). A pound of fat sits around and does nothing all day, while a pound of muscle, even at rest burns calories(increasing your basal metabolic rate). Good luck!!!
  2. I take green tea extract because it is safe, and 300mg / day of EGCG is supposed to increase metabolism. It also gives you the energy boost because it is naturally occuring caffiene. I can't tell you if it is working or not, because I am also eating very well - but i am losing about 2lbs / week.
  3. diet and exercise. Pills are garbage, they can only hurt.
  4. You seem to be on a very good course, most people take diet pills and then expect the weight to stay off. you have got yourself on the right track out of the gate, I can't suggest any diet pills if your BMI is under 27, but if you honestly need to lose 50 lbs, then I can assume your BMI is up there. We had great success with Proactol, it shed the lbs fast and it wasn't hard on us, no side effects at all, here is the link, they have all the info on their site. http://www.thefatbinder.com
  5. None of the pills will work. Caffeine does boost your metabolism *slightly*, so the minute you stop taking the pills your metabolism will drop again causing the weight to come back on. The only way to boost your metabolism is by building more muscle. Strength training is the only way. Also, about the pills, they are not regulated by the FDA. Legally, they can put that they will make you drop 10 lbs overnight and not have to actually work. And until enough people die from it, the FDA will not interfere. It sounds like you're doing great, so just keep up the great work you're doing. Don't waste any more of your money paying for diet pills that won't work.
  6. I used to use slim fast, I lost 50lbs. in about 6 months. Keep up the good work, I ate breakfast, and when i got hungry I drank water, and two slimfast. not at the same time. If you still fill hungry, drink water. It will fell you up for awhile,by the time you eat your meal, you wouldn't of have ate anything. Good luck and keep on exercising

  9. DO NOT TAKE DIET PILLS! They are dangerous!! Last year I was visiting my parents and took diet pills on top on my exercise routine and normal diet. I was 26 at the time, 5'11, 180 lbs. By week three I was sick. I had diarrhea, dry heaves, dizziness, headaches, and a general feeling of being sick. I thought I had caught the flu or something. I had lost 13 lbs in 4 days. One morning I told my mom I didn't feel good. My vision kept blacking out and I felt (for lack of a better way to say it) stoned. Later that afternoon I was walking from the bathroom to my bedroom (a 5 foot walk) and I passed out. I was rushed to the hospital emergency where they did a bunch of tests on me. My pulse was up to 120, My blood pressure was 150/40, they had to start me on an IV, the did an EKG on me, took blood and urine samples, and a whole barrage of other tests. They finally got me stabilized and said that I was dehydrated and malnutritioned. I told him that I took diet pills. When I mentioned diet pill, the doctors face lit up and said that's why. He said they can cause a whole bunch of health problems, including death. He told me to toss the diet pills or next time I might not be so lucky. I was kept in the hospital for almost 10 hours, given 3 or 4 IVs, potassium, juices, and monitored (by the EKG, blood pressure, and heart rate machines) every 15 minutes. Please take my story as a warning. If you seriously want to loose weight there are better ways (I know because I've lost weight after this) The quickest way is to cut out red meats, starches, breads, sugars, alcohol, and sodas. Eat veggies (salads are good), soups, and drink TONS of water. If you get hungry between a meal, drink water to fill up. In moderation eat white meats, and fruits (fruits contain natural sugars, and that can put on weight) Practice portion control. Yes, you'll feel hungry at first, but think of your goal, and soon your stomach will start shrinking and you won't have that feeling anymore. Eat 5 times a day. A small breakfast. A mid-morning snack, such as an apple. A small lunch. A mid-afternoon snack, such as carrots. A lite dinner. Do not eat any later than 7pm (6pm is better.) Go exercise for at least an hour a day, incorporating weight training. Weight training builds muscle. Muscle burns fat. You get the idea. It also gives tone and definition. Also do a few yoga and pilates exercises to help tone those hard to reach and stubborn areas.
  10. You're already doing the right things. Stay away from anything that calls itself a "weight loss supplement". Make sure you take a multivitamin daily and add an extra multi-B vitamin complex to boost metabolism. Check with the Dr. first tho!
  11. Pills are not the solution. They can be really dangerous. Eating every 3 hrs and doing exercise is the best way. Being on a diet doesn´t mean to be hungry during the day, people is completely wrong when they say "little food" that´s the reason why people is not able to be on a diet more that a week and why they gain more pounds that the lost when they finish it. How many days could you be without eating or eating less that you are use to? body needs to survive and if he doesn´t get food, the less you eat the more it keeps inside so.... you can lost weight because your body needs the whole calories possible to survive. Learn to eat, not greasy, sweety or salty meals and... There´s all! I´m on diet for 12 years. Do you think that I could be on it if I were hungry? Of course not, I eat every 3hrs no matter if I am hungry or not I do it. It´s like taking a medication. Try it. It´s really easy and you can eat what you like. Good look!!
  12. You would have to go to a Dr. to get it, it is called adepex (sp) the generic name is phentermine. You are doing the right thing w/ your diet and excercise. I started taking it after going to the Dr. for a thyroid test because I just could not lose weight even w/ diet and exercise. Many people will want to take a pill then go back to their old ways after they lose the weight. If you continue what you are doing and take that pill, you will lose that weight. After that, amke sure you keep up what you are doing now Good luck.
