For those who have or are breastfeeding - weight loss question ?

Did you find that brestfeeding helped you to lose weight or did it make your body hold onto the pregnancy weight longer ? Just curious because I have heard both situations happen. I am due the end of July with my first baby.

  1. It depend, I've always had issues with comfort eating so I'm a little over weight but I think nursing helped.
  2. I ate MORE after giving birth than I did when I was pregnant, and I was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans in three weeks. :) Absolutely it was because I breastfed.
  3. I'm breastfeeding, it's only been 2 weeks and I'm almost back to my original weight...I still have 10 pounds left.
  4. I just gave birth 10 days ago, breastfeeding every two hours, I already have a flat belly!!! Breastfeeding definitely helps loose weight as long as you don't eat sweets! I was 150 lb on the day of the delivery, I am 120 lb 10 days later!!! Swelling is gone and i am not as hungry anymore, baby will keep you busy, you will loose weight, breast is the best!!!
  5. up until my last baby it always helped me loose weight. but this time....cant seem to loose any. even w/exercise, and of course since i am breast feeding i cant cut back on calories. i just keep eating right, and hopefully once my son is weaned i can battle this horrible baby fat.
  6. in y experience, the breastfeeding definately uses extra calories and would have helped me loose weight BUT its making me so hungry all the time that i feel im putting on more weight, i just cant stop eating and i dont want to diet or cut out any foods because ive had issues with my baby loosing weight because shes not getting enough from my breastmilk and i dont want to make it worse
  7. It initially helps me to lose the bulk of the weight, but I hang on to about 5-10 lbs until around 6 months. After that I get thinner than ever.
  8. weeeeellll i am breastfeeding and i can;t shift that weight!! i dunno if its the feeding or if its just me! i used to do a lot of running before i got pregnant and i haven't really been able to do that as it hurts my boobs!
  9. breast feeding melts the weight right off of you
  10. breastfeeding deff helped me lose most of my baby weight
  11. I found it helped, but it's just a good start. When you are breastfeeding your body burns additional calories, so if you couple that with a somewhat healthy diet (don't go crazy healthy - it's just not worth it) and some light exercise/mommy duties, you should be fine. One thing that I found really helped was to drink a lot of water.... the 8 glasses a day thing really helps. I pretty much stopped drinking anything else. It keeps you hydrated and helps the weight move. I can't believe that I had a baby and ended up smaller than I was before! I went down 1 - 2 sizes in clothes and I wasn't big to begin with.
  12. you lose faster...some how it makes your uterus get smaller faster....its hard to explain...but when my daughter was a baby and breastfeeding...i could feel it contracting while i was breastfeeding
