What is Lap Band? Is it a good solution when weight loss/diets have failed???
I am 22 with High blood pressure and borderline diebetes. My family history of obesity is terrible. My mom was 35 when she had her first heart attack. Her father died at 49 from obesity and heart disease. I want to know the pros and cons of it. I have been approved from my doctor and I am so confused of what to do.
My BMI is somewhere between 45 and 47(depends on which doctors scale I go off of).

- Do you smoke? If so it is really important to Quit before you do this. I know someone that did and they didn't stop smoking. They ended p dieing. How many doctors did you got to? I would not go the the cheapest. this is your life. Know that the Doctor is board certified. Don't be affraid to ask questions. Good luck.
- My mom had this surgery performed about a year ago. It's prety much a gastric bypass without the stapling - your stomach gets opened in a few (3?) spots, small holes, they put a big rubberband around the stomach, and can adjust it as needed. The band constricts the stomach to a smaller size, meaning you get full faster. It is almost always reversible. The side effects my mother had were nothing major, some minor upset stomach, couldn't keep food down the first couple of weeks. But combined with exercise, it has helped her immensely. If your doctor gave you the okay, I'd say go for it. And check out this link: http://www.lapband.com/lapband/aboutlapband.do
