Answers swamped with weight loss questions!?

About 1 in 20 questions is now about trying to loose weight. I am sure this reflects the number of people with a problem and the concern that they have. The majority seem to have unrealistic expectations, most of which involve them not getting off the couch. What is beginning to happen is that regular answer contributors are increasingly, like me, giving their own answers again and again, either straight cut and paste, or slightly modified to fit the question. I would suggest anyone with weight issues type in weight loss and look at old questions and answers, because it is becoming repetitious and is swamping much of 'Answers'. OPINIONS PLEASE

  1. if you don't like it, leave. people are going to ask the same questions whether they read the old ones or not because they're hoping for some new insight into the weight loss game.
  2. I too have noticed how many questions are about weight loss. I figure it has much to do with the approaching bikini season. As long as you're not getting thumbed down for correct advice or reported for cutting & pasting answers don't sweat it (pun). Some of them are quite funny. My favorite was posted by someone who was skipping meals and in doing so, "proved" that she was losing fat because she was convinced that ALL weight loss is fat loss. Each and every answer told her how wrong she was and she ended up deleting the question altogether.
  3. You always have a choice - Don't answer them. I used to answer them sometimes but started getting fed up & realized many of these were anorexics or jokes. Wake up Smell the Coffee & find more deserving Questions!!!
  4. I think everybody knows (more or less) how to lose weight. It's so hard that they might be waiting for THE answer of the century. A revolutionary method. The real solution. It's only hope, and we know that it is not happening... When it comes to teenagers, it can be v dangerous. For example, answers like: don't eat anything, drink water or take drugs, etc.
  5. Yes, it's a major concern especially in affluent countries. There can never be enough education I feel. There's a lot of information out there, all hawking their brand of effective weight management but how many give responsible advise? It can get very confusing for the individual, even adults not to mention teenagers and children. Different strokes for different people eh? Not everyone gets the message the same way. E.g. I'm not an irresponsible person but I do want to stay healthy. I'm the sort of person who reads up on things before I try them out and believe me, I've tried lots. All I got was plummeting health and more weight I didn't need. Consulting with a health professional was the best thing I did. She fed me details that I used fully to my advantage and I am seeing positive results. Can't stop educating - it saves lives!
  6. I agree with you 100% People are worried about their weight, and many have unrealistic expectations, etc. Some times a copy paste answer is a good answer, probably the best one could give. So keep on doing just that if that is the case. Other times, just adding a twist to the same answer will make a important difference. So, give it that twist when needed. Some questions even though very similar to so many others, need special attention because the person is much more confused, desperate, or "lost" in his/her approach- We can not change the trend and worries of people, but we can adjust or answers in one of the three possibilities that I commented above. To the asker, every answer is a new one! We can always add a line in our answers; "type in weight loss and look at old questions and answers" for more information. I have read you answers and your comments, and I am sure they are valuable and helpful to many, (I like them).
  7. I agree that people don't bother to look at the previous questions, I think that is mainly down to the fact that they either don't care, are lazy or they think they have a unique situation. I think cutting and pasting if fine, if that's all the question needs, but I agree that if you are getting sick of people asking these questions you just have to ignore them. People will keep posting what is important to them, even if someone has asked before, they want a personal answers. There is so much information out there about how to lose weight that I would be really surprised if anyone doesn't know that restricting your diet, cutting out sweets and fried food and doing some exercise are the only long term solutions. But people are in denial! So many things these days you can get instantly and effortlessly, people want instant, effortless weight loss. They can't imagine themselves cutting out their treats (which they consider to be a normal, essential part of their diet) so they want a quick fix. I think the real problem is not the education (which they need over and over again), they also need willpower and a plan and a back up plan. I've lost weight about 20 times in my life (I'm 32) and I still haven't reached a point where I can keep it off. I've learnt what to do to lose weight. But then I fall back into my old ways. I don't have willpower and I don't have a back up plan. That's just me. I don't know what everyone else's weight problem is. But I don't think the number of pointless repeated questions being asked is going to stop or even drop. We just don't have the right attitudes anymore.
  8. I agree with you but they won't do it. (1) Because they are new on this site not familiar with the Search method yet and (2) I think they like the attention of getting their own personal answer to their question...usually posted out of frustration and wanting instant success like in losing weight. There is no magic formula...but they will never be convinced and will keep trying...seeking instant gratification which is what got them overweight in the first place. It makes me wonder if this need for approval is a learned behavior or some innate need. Funny how some questions just lead to more questions. I once read an article about joggers...the question was "What goes through the minds of these daily joggers?" The answer was "sex."
  9. there are alot of weight loss questions however in food and drink there are alot of questions asking for suggestions as to what to have for lunch / dinner. another recurring question is how do i cure my hangover? in singles and dating you find countless questions saying 'does he / she like me ?' looking at old answers would help in some cases but by asking new question it gives other people the chance to offer advice and answer questions that they may have missed previously.
  10. I agree with you, i'm so sick of seeing the same questions over and over. It seems people want an easy answer or someone to show them a bit of magic to get the fat out of their bodies.....what irritates me more is that they ask the questions then return later to ask about this fad diet or that fad diet which proves they haven't even listened to those of us who would like to offer sensible advice and the only true way of losing weight and keeping it off. It is pure denial and ignorance for people to pose questions such as,' i don't care if it's not healthy i just wanna be a size 0 for summer ', i have now started to ignore such questions, if they don't wanna hear the long term damage they will do to their bodies and metabolism then i can't be bothered to share my knowledge with them. I have noticed you have been giving stock answers and nobody would blame you really, you took time to write it out first of all and sure you have better things to do than waste your day re writting old info to some half wit that won't even listen to your professional opinion. You can take a horse to water etc.
  11. Many people are for some reason looking for a magic wand. I too wish that I had one of these, but I wouldn't use it for weight loss. I'd prefer to use 'my magic wand' to feed the starving millions across the globe and eradicate illness everywhere. But the answer they are looking for is logical......eat healthy amounts of healthy food and stay active. Best wishes x
  12. I totally agree with you. It's almost as annoying as the other frequently asked question "am I pregnant?" which of course, without the aid of a Crystal ball is impossible to tell. I can fully understand why you would have a stock answer regarding healthy eating and increase in exercise. The problem is, that's too much like hard work and people want to lose two stone in two days! Keep your answers coming, I always find your no nonsense, informative approach very helpful. By the way, your recent answer to someone asking about abdominal pain who had just about spelt every single word incorrectly in their question "You perhaps suffer from both dyslexia and a pathological inability to use a spell checker" had me in hysterics! Class.
  13. It is obviously a huge topic in the world today and this is why there are so many questions about it. The problem with weight loss is that not a single thing works for every single person, so some people may need (or think they need) their own personal advice. That said, I have seen plenty of questions that are identical (asking about a particular type of diet or something) and I can see how this can be frustrating for people who answer questions regularly. However, I would have to agree with some of the others when they say to not reply. There isn't anything that forces you to reply to the people who post, so if it is really bothersome for you, then you should just not respond. There is no need to cause yourself the aggravation when it isn't a requirement. I do think it is good advice for new posters to search the topics before posting though.
  14. I agree with you completely. Now can you help me with my HRT question please?!
  15. What's ironic is that although people are asking questions they are not prepared to follow the advice given in the sensible answers. Most askers are looking for a quick fix and not even interested in the sensible advice on how to lose weight in a healthy manner. I find it rather strange that they ask these questions in the hope of looking better in a matter of days when really the answers they are looking for are just plain common sense. Everytime you suggest healthy eating, reduced calorie intake, and regualr exercise the askers dismiss your answers for a quick fix fad diet. Why bother asking the question if you know in advance what you're going to do. Weightloss is a 'hot issue' that is not addressed properly. The reason why people ask weightloss question is because they think there is an easy solution they are going to discover... well if there was obesity would be deminished.
